Dragons are capable at breathing elements of varying types. Each dragon can master only a single element, but Purple Dragons have the ability to master all of the elements and other abilities that aren't possible. The main elements are Fire, Ice, Electricity, and Earth, although another element, Wind, has been mentioned. Aether is also an element. Uncommon elements, such as Shadow, Poison, and Fear, do exist but are rarer than the other elements.
The elements are often thought to have been granted to dragons by two entities one of light and one of darkness. The light entity granting the elements Fire, Ice, Electricity, Earth, and Wind. While as the dark entity granting Shadow, Poison, and Fear. Two more elements exist however they are far different than the ones granted by the entities these are Light and Darkness elements. These elements are granted by gods of the organized religions such as those who follow the paladin tenants or the reaver edicts.

Fire: bringer of light, heat, comfort... and destruction. A primal force of nature. In the darkest of places, the Fire element burned its brightest, and this was true for all the elemental effects. The Fire element is governed by focused control over breathing and expressed by exhalation. While this ability is active, a Fire Dragon's horns, tail, and wings would trail tendrils of gleaming sheaths of flame as they moved through an assault for more devastating attacks. Dragons that are hatched to this element are colored Red, Pink, Orange. The metallic color of fire is Red-Gold

Ice is a weapon of great contrasts and a tool of many uses. For the mightiest of Ice Dragons, it can slow the advance of an approaching army, or provide drinking water to a thirsty village. To harness the abilities of Ice, a Dragon must first learn to understand the nature of water and embrace a steely resolve deep within themselves, for only then can a frozen solid be produced. Moisture is drawn in from the air and (in dire emergencies) from the Dragon's own body. In combat, it is plausible that a master of Ice could supplement their defenses by magically sheathing parts of their body in magically projected pack ice, or when on the offensive, adorn themselves with impressive protrusions of needle-sharp ice. It is the tool of the true survivalist. Ice Dragons are more aloof and elitest when dealing with their more affable and flexible 'cousins', the Water Dragons. Dragons hatched into this element are commonly colored Blue, Turquoise, Teal, and Gray

To master the element of Electricity, a Dragon would need to be clever and quick-witted. Charged ionic forces displaced at speed are channeled from the air, redirected over the muscle, bone, sinew, and scale; and thus resisted with arts of wit and will project forth this phenomenal force of nature, either through exhalation or motion of the body. Nerves of steel and an exquisite sense of timing are essential here, lest a Dragon fail to properly redirect and release the potent energies surging through their body. The sheer speed of thought to regulate this instantaneous process allows a well trained Electricity Dragon to channel and produce powerful torrents of electricity. For this reason, Electricity Dragons are often possessed of higher cognitive function, with a 'silver tongue' to articulate thought at high speed. Such power though makes them prone to high-flown language, of which Volteer is a true example. A deep knowledge of the sky also assists to bolster understanding of this primal elemental power. It is not beyond reason that an Electricity Dragon in full possession of its wits and intellect could exercise mastery of this element in unexpected ways. The quick thinker could perhaps ionize the extremities of its' body, charging horns, claws, tail, and wingtips to create and project a static-electric manifestation. Similarly, this charge could be projected onto inanimate objects, provided they could carry a current, thus creating a deadly and cunning trap for unwary foes. Electricity is most definitely the thinking Dragon's' weapon of choice. The colors that dragons can be in this element are Yellow, Electric Blue or White. The metallic color of electricity is bronze. The metallic color of ice is silver.

Dragons of the Earth Element embrace a strong connection to nature, covering their bodies with its power, persisting at all times, but is at its peak when the Dragon is firmly grounded. They specialize in ground fighting over the aerial attack, calling forth the essence of stone and living nature. The power is expressed as an energy-based protection but literal stone and earth can be shaped and brought to beat in the service of a determined mind. Earth is a form founded on the precepts of strength over adversity, willful resolve, and obstinate determination. The bedrock of the world teems with energy, alive with ancient magic and fields of mana; a trained Earth Dragon at the height of its abilities can draw strength from these, delving deep into vast reserves to express its power. It wouldn't be unheard of for a Dragon aligned with this ability to perhaps augment their natural defenses with elementally extracted stone, fusing armored plates and blunt protrusions to form a highly resistant armor. Dragons that are born into this element are often colored Green, Brown, Tan, and Rust. Metalic color gold is a rarer color of these dragons.

Invisible, unpredictable, unreliable, playful, soothing, destructive, inspiring and life-giving: The Element of Air or Wind is all these things and much more. It is the representation of all that we cannot see: our souls, our spirits, our minds, and our hearts - of that what lies beneath or beyond as some scholars say. The purity of the spirit and the heart, clarity of thought within the mind, focus of intent, unhindered sight, are all under the control of the clear soaring unfettered Element of Air. Yet the Air is not always calm. Unpredictable and changing the Element of Wind can easily be a roaring hurricane as it can be a playful breeze. Dragons of this element are often sky blue, white, or light green

Shadow is one of the elements that people most fear, it is a cousin to darkness and children don't like either one. People mostly fear shadows and darkness because they don't know what is in it

Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change in metabolic and organ functions and ultimately a change in behavior, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from perceived traumatic events.

Poison is treated as some sort of mysterious mass that saps the life force out of the poisoned one. There's one type of poisoning (not counting stronger versions of the usual), and an antidote will cure it. Usually presented as green, purple, or both, and optionally colors the victim in the same tone.
